About Fairport

Fairport is a somewhat small village located in the state of New York. With a population of 5,680 people and six constituent neighborhoods, Fairport is the 342nd largest community in New York. Much of the housing stock in Fairport was built prior to World War II, making it one of the older and more historic villages in the country.

Unlike some villages, Fairport isn't mainly white- or blue-collar. Instead, the most prevalent occupations for people in Fairport are a mix of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Fairport is a village of professionals, sales and office workers, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Fairport who work in management occupations (12.98%), sales jobs (10.92%), and office and administrative support jobs (10.28%).

Also of interest is that Fairport has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

In addition, Fairport is home to many people who could be described as "urban sophisticates." Urban sophisticates are educated, wealthy, executives and professionals, who have urbane tastes in books, food, and travel, whether they actually live in a big city, or choose to reside in a small town. In big or medium-sized cities, urban sophisticates tend to frequent art institutions such as opera, symphonies, ballet, live theatre, and museums.

Fairport is a good choice for families with children because of several factors. Many other families with children live here, making it a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families. The village's good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic success. Many people own their own single-family homes, providing areas for children to play and stability in the community. Finally, Fairport's overall crime rate is lower than average for the country.

Residents of the village have the good fortune of having one of the shortest daily commutes compared to the rest of the country. On average, they spend only 18.34 minutes getting to work every day.

Fairport is a small village, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.
