About Cape May

Cape May is a very small coastal city (ie. on the ocean or tidally-influenced rivers) located in the state of New Jersey. With a population of 4,034 people and three constituent neighborhoods, Cape May is the 374th largest community in New Jersey.

In the civilian sector, Accomodation and Retail are prominent in the local economy and are the city's largest civilian employers, employing 16.87% and 16.36% of the civilian workforce respectively.

Another notable thing is that Cape May is an extremely popular vacation destination. A significant portion of the population is seasonal. Cape May is also a major retirement destination. In fact, people 65 and over make up 28.31% of the population. For those considering a place to retire, Cape May may be a good choice because much of the city's services and social community are oriented toward the over-65 demographic.

The city is also nautical, which means that parts of Cape May are somewhat historic and touch the ocean or tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and tidal rivers. Quite often, nautical areas such as these attract visitors and locals who come to enjoy the scenery and various waterfront activities.

One of the benefits of Cape May is that there is very little traffic. The average commute to work is 17.37 minutes, which is substantially less than the national average. Not only does this mean that the drive to work is less aggravating, but noise and pollution levels are lower as a result.

Cape May is a small city, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.
