Beach Haven, NJ
Beach Haven is a very small coastal borough (ie. on the ocean or tidally-influenced rivers) located in the state of New Jersey. With a population of 1,280 people and four constituent neighborhoods, Beach Haven is the 482nd largest community in New Jersey.
Unlike some boroughs where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Beach Haven is neither predominently one or the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Beach Haven is a borough of sales and office workers, professionals, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Beach Haven who work in sales jobs (13.71%), management occupations (12.36%), and office and administrative support jobs (11.39%).
Also of interest is that Beach Haven has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.
Beach Haven is a major vacation destination. Much of the borough's population is seasonal: many people own second homes and only live there part-time, during the vacation season. The effect on the local economy is that many of the businesses are dependant on tourist dollars, and may operate only during the high season. As the vacation season ends, Beach Haven's population drops significantly, such that year-round residents will notice that the city is a much quieter place to live.
In addition, Beach Haven is home to many people who could be described as "urban sophisticates." Urban sophisticates are educated, wealthy, executives and professionals, who have urbane tastes in books, food, and travel, whether they actually live in a big city, or choose to reside in a small town. In big or medium-sized cities, urban sophisticates tend to frequent art institutions such as opera, symphonies, ballet, live theatre, and museums.
One of the nice things about Beach Haven is that is it nautical, meaning that parts of the borough are somewhat historic and on the ocean, or touch tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and tidal rivers. Because of this, visitors and locals will often go to these areas to take in the scenery or to enjoy waterfront activities.
As is often the case in a small borough, Beach Haven doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.
