About Bayonne

Bayonne is a larger medium-sized coastal city (ie. on the ocean or tidally-influenced rivers) located in the state of New Jersey. With a population of 61,842 people and 16 constituent neighborhoods, Bayonne is the 15th largest community in New Jersey. Bayonne has an unusually large stock of pre-World War II architecture, making it one of the older and more historic cities in the country.

Bayonne is neither predominently blue-collar or white-collar, instead having a mixed workforce of both blue-collar and white-collar jobs. Overall, Bayonne is a city of sales and office workers, professionals, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Bayonne who work in office and administrative support jobs (23.01%), sales jobs (9.04%), and management occupations (7.60%).

The city is also nautical, which means that parts of Bayonne are somewhat historic and touch the ocean or tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and tidal rivers. Quite often, nautical areas such as these attract visitors and locals who come to enjoy the scenery and various waterfront activities.

In Bayonne, however, the average commute to work is quite long. On average, people spend 32.81 minutes each day getting to work, which is significantly higher than the national average. One bright side is that local public transit is widely used, so it may be an option to avoid the headache of driving in the heavy traffic by leaving the car at home and taking transit. In addition, the city is also quite pedestrian-friendly, because many neighborhoods are very dense and have amenities close enough together that people find it feasible to get around on foot.

Like elsewhere in America, most people in Bayonne use a private automobile to get to work. But notably, a substantial number of Bayonne's citizens do make use of public transit in their daily commute, primarily riding the bus. This helps more people get to work with less air pollution, and require fewer highways to get them there.
