Avenel is a somewhat small coastal town (ie. on the ocean or tidally-influenced rivers) located in the state of New Jersey. With a population of 17,552 people and four constituent neighborhoods, Avenel is the 117th largest community in New Jersey.

Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Avenel is neither predominently one or the other.
