New Jersey is bordered by New York, Delaware and Pennsylvania, as well as the Atlantic Ocean. New Jersey real estate is essentially divided into three regions: North Jersey, Central Jersey, and South Jersey. North Jersey is located adjacent to New York City, and many of its residents commute from their New Jersey home, apartment or condo into the city. Central Jersey is a largely suburban area, while South Jersey is near Philadelphia, and is generally influenced by that city. The capital of New Jersey, located in Central Jersey, is Trenton.
Newark and Camden, suburbs of New York and Philadelphia respectively, are two of the poorest cities in America, but New Jersey as a whole has the highest median household income in the nation, as well as the second highest per capita income, after Connecticut. This is largely due to the fact that with the exception of Newark and Camden, so much of New Jersey is comprised of affluent suburbs of New York City and Philadelphia.
Some other prominent cities located within the state lines are Jersey City, an important transportation center; Paterson, located on the Great Falls of the Passaic River; Andover, located in North Jersey; Atlantic City, famous for its Boardwalk and casinos along the Atlantic Ocean; Hoboken, the gentrifying birthplace of Frank Sinatra; Princeton, home to Princeton University, and Asbury Park, famous for its favorite son, Bruce Springsteen.*
