About Chanhassen

Chanhassen is a medium-sized city located in the state of Minnesota. With a population of 20,329 people and two constituent neighborhoods, Chanhassen is the 44th largest community in Minnesota.

Chanhassen is a decidedly white-collar city, with fully 88.36% of the workforce employed in white-collar jobs, well above the national average. Overall, Chanhassen is a city of managers, sales and office workers, and professionals. There are especially a lot of people living in Chanhassen who work in management occupations (18.89%), sales jobs (16.20%), and office and administrative support jobs (11.12%).

Also of interest is that Chanhassen has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

In addition, Chanhassen is home to many people who could be described as "urban sophisticates," which are people who are not only wealthy and employed in professional occupations, but highly educated to boot. Urban sophisticates have urbane tastes - whether they reside in a big or small city, a suburb, or a little town. Urban sophisticates support bookstores, quality clothing stores, enjoy luxury travel, and in big cities, they are truly the patrons of the arts, attending and supporting institutions such as opera, symphony, ballet, and theatre.

Because of many things, Chanhassen is a great place for families with children to consider. First of all, many other families with children live here, making Chanhassen a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families, as well as find family-oriented services and community. The city's good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic values. With regard to real estate, Chanhassen has a high rate of owner-occupied single family homes, which tends to reflect stability in the local community. Finally, Chanhassen's overall crime rate is lower than average for the country.

Residents of Chanhassen by-and-large get to work each day by driving: 97.1% use their own cars for their daily commute, making it a very car-oriented city. While Chanhassen may be a convenient place for driving around town, the negative aspect of this is that places that are suitable for walking or bicycling to and from work or stores may be few and far between. In general, car-oriented communities emphasize roads and convenience of driving, but not have a lot of walking-friendly areas to get from home to work, and tend not to have a lot of public transportation options.

Being a small city, Chanhassen does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.
