Mount Rainier is a somewhat small city located in the state of Maryland. With a population of 8,463 people and two constituent neighborhoods, Mount Rainier is the 132nd largest community in Maryland.

Unlike some cities where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Mount Rainier is neither predominently one or the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Mount Rainier is a city of sales and office workers, service providers, and professionals. Also of interest is that Mount Rainier has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

In addition, Mount Rainier is home to many people who could be described as "urban sophisticates," which are people who are not only wealthy and employed in professional occupations, but highly educated to boot. Urban sophisticates have urbane tastes - whether they reside in a big or small city, a suburb, or a little town. Urban sophisticates support bookstores, quality clothing stores, enjoy luxury travel, and in big cities, they are truly the patrons of the arts, attending and supporting institutions such as opera, symphony, ballet, and theatre.

One downside of living in Mount Rainier is that it can take a long time to commute to work. In Mount Rainier, the average commute to work is 35.14 minutes, which is quite a bit higher than the national average. On the other hand, local public transit is widely used in the city, so leaving the car at home and taking transit is often a viable alternative.

In Mount Rainier, a lot of people use the bus to get to work every day even though Mount Rainier is a relatively small city. Those that ride the bus are primarily traveling out of town to good jobs in other cities.
