Crownsville, MD
Crownsville is a very small coastal town (ie. on the ocean or tidally-influenced rivers) located in the state of Maryland. With a population of 1,704 people and three constituent neighborhoods, Crownsville is the 257th largest community in Maryland.
Unlike some towns, Crownsville isn't mainly white- or blue-collar. Instead, the most prevalent occupations for people in Crownsville are a mix of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Crownsville is a town of managers, sales and office workers, and professionals. There are especially a lot of people living in Crownsville who work in management occupations (29.15%), sales jobs (18.76%), and office and administrative support jobs (10.82%).
Of important note, Crownsville is also a town of artists. Crownsville has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Crownsville's character.
A relatively large number of people in Crownsville telecommute to their jobs. Overall, about 7.46% of the workforce works from home. While this may seem like a small number, as a fraction of the total workforce it ranks among the highest in the country. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
Because of many things, Crownsville is a very good place for families to consider. With an enviable combination of good schools, low crime, college-educated neighbors who tend to support education because of their own experiences, and a high rate of home ownership in predominantly single-family properties, Crownsville really has some of the features that families look for when choosing a good community to raise children. Is Crownsville perfect? Of course not, and if you like frenetic night life, it will be far from your cup of tea. But overall this is a solid community, with many things to recommend it as a family-friendly place to live.
The town is also nautical, which means that parts of Crownsville are somewhat historic and bounded by the ocean or tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and tidal rivers. Such areas are often places that visitors and locals go for waterfront activities or taking in the scenery.
Crownsville is very much a car-oriented town. This is because the population of Crownsville isn't large enough or dense enough to support an extensive public transit system. It has a lot of rural roads, and the distance between houses can be quite large, which together tends to discourage walking and bicycling to work. 98.74% of residents commute to work in their own car (and the drive is typically to a job out of town). People also tend to drive out of town for other services as well, such as shopping, doctors appointments, and more.
Being a small town, Crownsville does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.
