About Georgetown

Georgetown is a very small town located in the state of Indiana. With a population of 4,652 people and just one neighborhood, Georgetown is the 136th largest community in Indiana.

Georgetown is a decidedly white-collar town, with fully 87.15% of the workforce employed in white-collar jobs, well above the national average. Overall, Georgetown is a town of professionals, sales and office workers, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Georgetown who work in sales jobs (13.59%), office and administrative support jobs (11.15%), and management occupations (10.78%).

Of important note, Georgetown is also a town of artists. Georgetown has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Georgetown's character.

Also of interest is that Georgetown has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

In addition, Georgetown is a college town. There are a lot of students in Georgetown attending college, and as a result Georgetown provides a number of services, amenities and opportunities geared to the needs and activities of students.

For a small town, there is also a high proportion of single, often educated, people living in Georgetown. This is not typical for most smaller communities in America, and adds a feeling of vibrancy to Georgetown.

In addition to being popular with young singles, Georgetown is also home to many people who can be described as "urban sophisticates," which are people who are not only wealthy and employed in professional occupations, but highly educated to boot. Urban sophisticates have urbane tastes - whether they reside in a big or small city, a suburb, or a little town. Urban sophisticates support bookstores, quality clothing stores, enjoy luxury travel, and in big cities, they are truly the patrons of the arts, attending and supporting institutions such as opera, symphony, ballet, and theatre.

Georgetown is a very car-oriented town. 99.15% of residents commute to work in a private automobile rather than by other means, such as public transit, bicycling, or walking. This is because Georgetown is a small town, and most people who live here have to drive out of town for work, and the town population is not large nor dense enough to support an extensive public transportation system. Georgetown has a lot of rural roads, and houses can be far apart. Many residents drive out of town for regular shopping trips as well.

Being a small town, Georgetown does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.
