Bishop, GA
About Bishop
Bishop is a tiny town located in the state of Georgia. With a population of 145 people and just one neighborhood, Bishop is the 470th largest community in Georgia. Bishop has an unusually large stock of pre-World War II architecture, making it one of the older and more historic towns in the country.
Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Bishop is neither predominently one or the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Bishop is a town of sales and office workers, professionals, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Bishop who work in sales jobs (17.19%), building maintenance and grounds keeping (15.63%), and teaching (12.50%).
Of important note, Bishop is also a town of artists. Bishop has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Bishop's character.
Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 8.06% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
Residents of the town have the good fortune of having one of the shortest daily commutes compared to the rest of the country. On average, they spend only 15.79 minutes getting to work every day.
Bishop is a small town, and as is often the case with smaller towns, the population isn't large or dense enough to support much in the way of a public transportation system. In fact, there are many rural roads around Bishop, which makes walking or biking to and from work a bit difficult. This makes for a very car-oriented town: 96.49% of residents commute to work by private automobile, and people often drive out of town for work, shopping, and other activities.
As is often the case in a small town, Bishop doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.
