About Homestead

Homestead is a medium-sized coastal city (ie. on the ocean or tidally-influenced rivers) located in the state of Florida. With a population of 32,046 people and 14 constituent neighborhoods, Homestead is the 85th largest community in Florida.

Because occupations involving physical labor dominate the local economy, Homestead is generally considered to be a blue-collar town. 41.6% of the Homestead workforce is employed in blue-collar occupations, compared to the national average of 24.7%. Overall, Homestead is a city of sales and office workers, service providers, and construction workers and builders. The city is also nautical, which means that parts of Homestead are somewhat historic and bounded by the ocean or tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and tidal rivers. Such areas are often places that visitors and locals go for waterfront activities or taking in the scenery.

One downside of living in Homestead is that it can take a long time to commute to work. In Homestead, the average commute to work is 31.85 minutes, which is quite a bit higher than the national average.

Homestead is a decent-sized city, yet no one gets to work using public transit, because the city has no real transit system.
