Sedalia, CO
Sedalia is a very small town located in the state of Colorado. With a population of 3,614 people and two constituent neighborhoods, Sedalia is the 96th largest community in Colorado.
Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Sedalia is neither predominently one or the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Sedalia is a town of sales and office workers, professionals, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Sedalia who work in management occupations (15.67%), sales jobs (15.57%), and office and administrative support jobs (12.07%).
Also of interest is that Sedalia has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.
Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 9.36% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
In Sedalia, however, the average commute to work is quite long. On average, people spend 40.78 minutes each day getting to work, which is significantly higher than the national average.
Sedalia is very much a car-oriented town. This is because the population of Sedalia isn't large enough or dense enough to support an extensive public transit system. It has a lot of rural roads, and the distance between houses can be quite large, which together tends to discourage walking and bicycling to work. 97.86% of residents commute to work in their own car (and the drive is typically to a job out of town). People also tend to drive out of town for other services as well, such as shopping, doctors appointments, and more.
As is often the case in a small town, Sedalia doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.
