About Carey
Carey is a tiny town located in the state of Idaho. With a population of 828 people and just one neighborhood, Carey is the 96th largest community in Idaho.
When you are in Carey, you'll notice that it is more blue-collar than most other communities in America. 36.8% of Carey's employed work in blue-collar jobs, while America averages only 24.7% that do. Overall, Carey is a town of sales and office workers, managers, and construction workers and builders. There are especially a lot of people living in Carey who work in office and administrative support jobs (15.95%), farm management (8.38%), and sales jobs (8.38%).
Another important characteristic of Carey is that a lot of people work in agricultural jobs, especially compared to most other communities in America, and there are quite a number of farms in town.
One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their homes - 9.64% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
Because of many things, Carey is a great place for families with children to consider. First of all, many other families with children live here, making Carey a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families, as well as find family-oriented services and community. The town's good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic values. With regard to real estate, Carey has a high rate of owner-occupied single family homes, which tends to reflect stability in the local community. Finally, Carey's overall crime rate ranks among the lowest in the country, making it one of the safest places to raise a family.
One downside of living in Carey is that it can take a long time to commute to work. In Carey, the average commute to work is 32.32 minutes, which is quite a bit higher than the national average.
Being a small town, Carey does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.
