About Fairfield

Fairfield is a larger medium-sized coastal town (ie. on the ocean or tidally-influenced rivers) located in the state of Connecticut. With a population of 57,340 people and 16 constituent neighborhoods, Fairfield is the 13th largest community in Connecticut.

Fairfield is a decidedly white-collar town, with fully 90.06% of the workforce employed in white-collar jobs, well above the national average. Overall, Fairfield is a town of professionals, sales and office workers, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Fairfield who work in management occupations (18.47%), sales jobs (15.25%), and office and administrative support jobs (12.01%).

Of important note, Fairfield is also a town of artists. Fairfield has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Fairfield's character.

Also of interest is that Fairfield has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

One thing noticeable about Fairfield, although not a huge town, is that it has a large population of people who are young, single, educated, and upwardly-mobile career starters. That's because Fairfield is full of single people in their 20s and 30s and who have undergraduate or graduate degrees and are starting careers in professional occupations. This makes Fairfield a pretty good place for young, educated career starters looking to find many people like themselves, with good opportunities for friendships, socializing, romance, and fun.

In addition to being popular with young singles, Fairfield is also home to many people who can be described as "urban sophisticates." Urban sophisticates are educated, wealthy, executives and professionals, who have urbane tastes in books, food, and travel, whether they actually live in a big city, or choose to reside in a small town. In big or medium-sized cities, urban sophisticates tend to frequent art institutions such as opera, symphonies, ballet, live theatre, and museums.

Because of many things, Fairfield is a great place for families with children to consider. First of all, many other families with children live here, making Fairfield a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families, as well as find family-oriented services and community. The town's good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic values. With regard to real estate, Fairfield has a high rate of owner-occupied single family homes, which tends to reflect stability in the local community. Finally, Fairfield's overall crime rate is lower than average for the country.

One of the nice things about Fairfield is that is it nautical, meaning that parts of the town are somewhat historic and on the ocean, or touch tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and tidal rivers. Because of this, visitors and locals will often go to these areas to take in the scenery or to enjoy waterfront activities.

In Fairfield, however, the average commute to work is quite long. On average, people spend 31.27 minutes each day getting to work, which is significantly higher than the national average.
