Cromwell is a somewhat small coastal town (ie. on the ocean or tidally-influenced rivers) located in the state of Connecticut. With a population of 12,871 people and three constituent neighborhoods, Cromwell is the 83rd largest community in Connecticut.
Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Cromwell is neither predominently one or the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Cromwell is a town of sales and office workers, professionals, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Cromwell who work in office and administrative support jobs (17.57%), management occupations (11.69%), and sales jobs (10.32%).
Also of interest is that Cromwell has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.
In addition, Cromwell is home to many people who could be described as "urban sophisticates." Urban sophisticates are educated, wealthy, executives and professionals, who have urbane tastes in books, food, and travel, whether they actually live in a big city, or choose to reside in a small town. In big or medium-sized cities, urban sophisticates tend to frequent art institutions such as opera, symphonies, ballet, live theatre, and museums.
One of the nice things about Cromwell is that is it nautical, meaning that parts of the town are somewhat historic and on the ocean, or touch tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and tidal rivers. Because of this, visitors and locals will often go to these areas to take in the scenery or to enjoy waterfront activities.
For most residents of Cromwell, getting to work requires a car. In fact, 96.5% of people in Cromwell drive alone to work on most days, making Cromwell a very car-oriented town. In general, car-oriented communities tend to emphasize streets, highways, and ease of parking, often to the detriment of walkability. Strip centers are a feature of Cromwell's landscape.
Cromwell is a small town, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.
