About Brooklyn

Brooklyn is a somewhat small town located in the state of Connecticut. With a population of 7,173 people and just one neighborhood, Brooklyn is the 113rd largest community in Connecticut.

Brooklyn is neither predominently blue-collar or white-collar, instead having a mixed workforce of both blue-collar and white-collar jobs. Overall, Brooklyn is a town of professionals, sales and office workers, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Brooklyn who work in office and administrative support jobs (13.46%), sales jobs (8.49%), and teaching (7.89%).

Brooklyn is a good choice for families with children because of several factors. Many other families with children live here, making it a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families. The town's good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic success. Many people own their own single-family homes, providing areas for children to play and stability in the community. Finally, Brooklyn's overall crime rate is lower than average for the country.

Brooklyn is very much a car-oriented town. This is because the population of Brooklyn isn't large enough or dense enough to support an extensive public transit system. It has a lot of rural roads, and the distance between houses can be quite large, which together tends to discourage walking and bicycling to work. 98.36% of residents commute to work in their own car (and the drive is typically to a job out of town). People also tend to drive out of town for other services as well, such as shopping, doctors appointments, and more.

Brooklyn is a small town, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.

In terms of college education, Brooklyn is somewhat better educated than the 14.96% who have a 4-year degree or higher in the typical US community: 19.91% of adults 25 and older in the town have at least a bachelor's degree.

The per capita income in Brooklyn in 2000 was $20,359, which is low income relative to Connecticut, and upper middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $81,436 for a family of four.
