About Crane Hill

Crane Hill is a very small town located in the state of Alabama. With a population of 2,519 people and just one neighborhood, Crane Hill is the 213rd largest community in Alabama.

Unlike some towns , Crane Hill isn't mainly white- or blue-collar. Instead, the most prevalent occupations for people in Crane Hill are a mix of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Crane Hill is a town of sales and office workers, managers, and production and manufacturing workers. There are especially a lot of people living in Crane Hill who work in sales jobs (14.43%), office and administrative support jobs (12.58%), and farm management (7.80%).

You will also find that a lot of people in Crane Hill work in agricultural jobs - much more than in the average community in America. This will be quite apparent if you drive around town, as much of the landscape is dedicated to farms.

A relatively large number of people in Crane Hill telecommute to their jobs. Overall, about 8.28% of the workforce works from home. While this may seem like a small number, as a fraction of the total workforce it ranks among the highest in the country. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Crane Hill is an extremely popular destination for tourists and seasonal residents. So much of the population is seasonal such that the town's population swells significantly during the vacation season, and drops again when the season ends. Because of this, much of the local economy is centered around tourism; some businesses may be operated only during the high season. During the low season, year-round residents will notice that the city is a substantially quieter place to live.

One downside of living in Crane Hill, however, is that residents on average have to contend with a long commute, spending on average 43.36 minutes every day commuting to work.

Crane Hill is very much a car-oriented town. This is because the population of Crane Hill isn't large enough or dense enough to support an extensive public transit system. It has a lot of rural roads, and the distance between houses can be quite large, which together tends to discourage walking and bicycling to work. 99.08% of residents commute to work in their own car (and the drive is typically to a job out of town). People also tend to drive out of town for other services as well, such as shopping, doctors appointments, and more.

Crane Hill is a small town, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.
