About Arab

Arab is a somewhat small city located in the state of Alabama. With a population of 7,180 people and three constituent neighborhoods, Arab is the 101st largest community in Alabama.

Unlike some cities, Arab isn't mainly white- or blue-collar. Instead, the most prevalent occupations for people in Arab are a mix of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Arab is a city of sales and office workers, professionals, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Arab who work in office and administrative support jobs (16.40%), sales jobs (13.63%), and management occupations (10.18%).

Also of interest is that Arab has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

Arab is very much a car-oriented city. This is because the population of Arab isn't large enough or dense enough to support an extensive public transit system. It has a lot of rural roads, and the distance between houses can be quite large, which together tends to discourage walking and bicycling to work. 98.65% of residents commute to work in their own car (and the drive is typically to a job out of town). People also tend to drive out of town for other services as well, such as shopping, doctors appointments, and more.

Being a small city, Arab does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.

Arab Information and Demographics

In terms of college education, Arab is somewhat better educated than the 14.96% who have a 4-year degree or higher in the typical US community: 21.50% of adults 25 and older in the city have at least a bachelor's degree.

The per capita income in Arab in 2000 was $20,035, which is wealthy relative to Alabama, and upper middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $80,140 for a family of four.

The people who call Arab home come from a variety of different races and ancestries. The most prevalent race in Arab is White, followed by Asian. Important ancestries of people in Arab include English, Irish, German, and Scotch-Irish.

The most common language spoken in Arab is English.
