Neighborhood Educational Ratings

Patent Pending by NeighborhoodScout®

It is well known that the quality of education provided by public schools varies greatly from school district to school district, and from city to city. Still further, the quality of a child’s education can vary significantly from neighborhood to neighborhood within any city or town.

NeighborhoodScout® has developed a patent pending rating system that provides insightful ratings for each neighborhood in America - Neighborhood Educational Ratings - based on the quality of the schools and of the educational environment for every neighborhood in each city, all across America.

The result? - neighborhood educational ratings that facilitate accurate comparison among neighborhoods in the same (or different) cities, and even between neighborhoods in different states.

The rating includes both the quality of the local school district as assessed here, and the neighborhood educational environment, which is assessed by the percentage of adults living in the neighborhood that have achieved at least a 4-year college degree, combined with rankings of the percentage of children living in poverty in the neighborhood. These two educational environment factors have been shown to be statistically correlated with quality of schools, and of the quality of the educational environment in a local neighborhood or even a city. The greater proportion of educated adults, and the lower the proportion of children living in poverty, has been shown to have statistical significance (not necessarily causally related) with higher test scores on standardized tests and greater educational achievement later in life.
