About St. Lawrence

St. Lawrence is a very small borough located in the state of Pennsylvania. With a population of 1,812 people and just one neighborhood, St. Lawrence is the 724th largest community in Pennsylvania.

Unlike some boroughs where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, St. Lawrence is neither predominently one or the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, St. Lawrence is a borough of sales and office workers, professionals, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in St. Lawrence who work in office and administrative support jobs (17.82%), sales jobs (13.68%), and management occupations (6.36%).

Also of interest is that St. Lawrence has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

Because of many things, St. Lawrence is a great place for families with children to consider. First of all, many other families with children live here, making St. Lawrence a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families, as well as find family-oriented services and community. The borough's good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic values. With regard to real estate, St. Lawrence has a high rate of owner-occupied single family homes, which tends to reflect stability in the local community. Finally, St. Lawrence's overall crime rate is lower than average for the country.

St. Lawrence is very much a car-oriented borough. This is because the population of St. Lawrence isn't large enough or dense enough to support an extensive public transit system. It has a lot of rural roads, and the distance between houses can be quite large, which together tends to discourage walking and bicycling to work. 96.64% of residents commute to work in their own car (and the drive is typically to a job out of town). People also tend to drive out of town for other services as well, such as shopping, doctors appointments, and more.

As is often the case in a small borough, St. Lawrence doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.

St. Lawrence Information and Demographics

The percentage of people in St. Lawrence who are college-educated is somewhat higher than the average US community of 14.96%: 20.99% of adults in St. Lawrence have at least a bachelor's degree.

The per capita income in St. Lawrence in 2000 was $22,088, which is upper middle income relative to Pennsylvania and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $88,352 for a family of four.

The people who call St. Lawrence home come from a variety of different races and ancestries. The most prevalent race in St. Lawrence is White, followed by African-American. Important ancestries of people in St. Lawrence include German, Italian, Irish, Polish, English, Pennsylvania German, and Slovak.
