Independence is a somewhat small city located in the state of Oregon. With a population of 5,972 people and two constituent neighborhoods, Independence is the 70th largest community in Oregon.

Because occupations involving physical labor dominate the local economy, Independence is generally considered to be a blue-collar town. 38.1% of the Independence workforce is employed in blue-collar occupations, compared to the national average of 24.7%. Overall, Independence is a city of service providers, sales and office workers, and professionals. There are especially a lot of people living in Independence who work in office and administrative support jobs (11.11%), sales jobs (7.05%), and teaching (6.66%).

Another important characteristic of Independence is that a lot of people work in agricultural jobs, especially compared to most other communities in America, and there are quite a number of farms in town.
