Mountain View is a very small town located in the state of Oklahoma. With a population of 1,622 people and just one neighborhood, Mountain View is the 192nd largest community in Oklahoma.
Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Mountain View is neither predominently one or the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Mountain View is a town of professionals, sales and office workers, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Mountain View who work in farm management (13.42%), office and administrative support jobs (12.60%), and teaching (11.29%).
You will also find that a lot of people in Mountain View work in agricultural jobs - much more than in the average community in America. This will be quite apparent if you drive around town, as much of the landscape is dedicated to farms.
One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their homes - 7.73% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
Mountain View is a small town, and as is often the case with smaller towns, the population isn't large or dense enough to support much in the way of a public transportation system. In fact, there are many rural roads around Mountain View, which makes walking or biking to and from work a bit difficult. This makes for a very car-oriented town: 97.68% of residents commute to work by private automobile, and people often drive out of town for work, shopping, and other activities.
Being a small town, Mountain View does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.
In terms of college education, the citizens of Mountain View rank slightly lower than the national average. 13.92% of adults 25 and older in Mountain View have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree, while 14.96% of adults have a 4-year degree or higher in the average American community.
The per capita income in Mountain View in 2000 was $15,820, which is upper middle income relative to Oklahoma, and lower middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $63,280 for a family of four.
Mountain View is a very ethnically-diverse town. The people who call Mountain View home come from a variety of different races and ancestries. The most prevalent race in Mountain View is White, followed by Native American. Important ancestries of people in Mountain View include German, Irish, and English.
The most common language spoken in Mountain View is English. Some people also speak Other Native American languages.
