About Otego

Otego is a very small town located in the state of New York. With a population of 3,496 people and just one neighborhood, Otego is the 470th largest community in New York. Otego has an unusually large stock of pre-World War II architecture, making it one of the older and more historic towns in the country.

Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Otego is neither predominently one or the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Otego is a town of sales and office workers, professionals, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Otego who work in office and administrative support jobs (18.49%), sales jobs (8.70%), and teaching (7.31%).

Otego is a small town, and as is often the case with smaller towns, the population isn't large or dense enough to support much in the way of a public transportation system. In fact, there are many rural roads around Otego, which makes walking or biking to and from work a bit difficult. This makes for a very car-oriented town: 97.5% of residents commute to work by private automobile, and people often drive out of town for work, shopping, and other activities.

Otego is a small town, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.
