White Rock is a somewhat small town located in the state of New Mexico. With a population of 6,028 people and just one neighborhood, White Rock is the 36th largest community in New Mexico.
White Rock is a decidedly white-collar town, with fully 95.43% of the workforce employed in white-collar jobs, well above the national average. Overall, White Rock is a town of professionals, managers, and sales and office workers. There are especially a lot of people living in White Rock who work in management occupations (14.88%), architecture and engineering (14.79%), and the sciences (14.27%).
Also of interest is that White Rock has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.
And if you like science, one thing you'll find is that White Rock has lots of scientists living in town - whether they be life scientists, physical scientists (like astronomers), or social scientists (like geographers!). So, if you're scientific-minded, you might like it here too.
In addition, White Rock is home to many people who could be described as "urban sophisticates," which are people who are not only wealthy and employed in professional occupations, but highly educated to boot. Urban sophisticates have urbane tastes - whether they reside in a big or small city, a suburb, or a little town. Urban sophisticates support bookstores, quality clothing stores, enjoy luxury travel, and in big cities, they are truly the patrons of the arts, attending and supporting institutions such as opera, symphony, ballet, and theatre.
White Rock is a good choice for families with children because of several factors. Many other families with children live here, making it a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families. The town's good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic success. Many people own their own single-family homes, providing areas for children to play and stability in the community. Finally, White Rock's overall crime rate is lower than average for the country.
Compared to the rest of the country, citizens of White Rock spend much less time in their cars: on average, their commute to work is only 16.65 minutes. This also means that noise and pollution levels in the town are less than they would otherwise be.
White Rock is very much a car-oriented town. This is because the population of White Rock isn't large enough or dense enough to support an extensive public transit system. It has a lot of rural roads, and the distance between houses can be quite large, which together tends to discourage walking and bicycling to work. 97.21% of residents commute to work in their own car (and the drive is typically to a job out of town). People also tend to drive out of town for other services as well, such as shopping, doctors appointments, and more.
White Rock is a small town, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.
If knowledge is power, White Rock is a pretty powerful place. 59.92% of the adults in White Rock have earned a 4-year college degree, masters degree, MD, law degree, or even PhD. Compare that to the national average of 14.96% for all cities and towns.
The per capita income in White Rock in 2000 was $36,288, which is wealthy relative to New Mexico and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $145,152 for a family of four. However, White Rock contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.
The people who call White Rock home come from a variety of different races and ancestries. The most prevalent race in White Rock is White, followed by Asian. Important ancestries of people in White Rock include German, English, Irish, British, Italian, and European.
The most common language spoken in White Rock is English. Some people also speak Spanish.
