About San Cristobal

San Cristobal is a tiny town located in the state of New Mexico. With a population of 413 people and just one neighborhood, San Cristobal is the 112nd largest community in New Mexico.

Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, San Cristobal is neither predominently one or the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, San Cristobal is a town of professionals, production and manufacturing workers, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in San Cristobal who work in management occupations (11.11%), healthcare (10.10%), and sales jobs (9.09%).

And if you like science, one thing you'll find is that San Cristobal has lots of scientists living in town - whether they be life scientists, physical scientists (like astronomers), or social scientists (like geographers!). So, if you're scientific-minded, you might like it here too.

Another important characteristic of San Cristobal is that a lot of people work in agricultural jobs, especially compared to most other communities in America, and there are quite a number of farms in town.

One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their homes - 11.64% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

One downside of living in San Cristobal, however, is that residents on average have to contend with a long commute, spending on average 41.44 minutes every day commuting to work. It is, however, a pedestrian-friendly town. Many of its neighborhoods are dense enough and have amenities close enough together that people find it feasible to get around on foot.

Being a small town, San Cristobal does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.

San Cristobal Information and Demographics
