Pena Blanca is a tiny town located in the state of New Mexico. With a population of 637 people and just one neighborhood, Pena Blanca is the 102nd largest community in New Mexico.
Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Pena Blanca is neither predominently one or the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Pena Blanca is a town of professionals, sales and office workers, and construction workers and builders. There are especially a lot of people living in Pena Blanca who work in teaching (17.16%), sales jobs (13.02%), and office and administrative support jobs (10.65%).
Also of interest is that Pena Blanca has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.
One downside of living in Pena Blanca, however, is that residents on average have to contend with a long commute, spending on average 40.24 minutes every day commuting to work.
Pena Blanca is a very car-oriented town. 100% of residents commute to work in a private automobile rather than by other means, such as public transit, bicycling, or walking. This is because Pena Blanca is a small town, and most people who live here have to drive out of town for work, and the town population is not large nor dense enough to support an extensive public transportation system. Pena Blanca has a lot of rural roads, and houses can be far apart. Many residents drive out of town for regular shopping trips as well.
As is often the case in a small town, Pena Blanca doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.
In terms of college education, Pena Blanca is somewhat better educated than the 14.96% who have a 4-year degree or higher in the typical US community: 22.54% of adults 25 and older in the town have at least a bachelor's degree.
The per capita income in Pena Blanca in 2000 was $15,073, which is upper middle income relative to New Mexico, and lower middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $60,292 for a family of four.
