Capitan is a very small town located in the state of New Mexico. With a population of 2,258 people and just one neighborhood, Capitan is the 63rd largest community in New Mexico.

Capitan is neither predominently blue-collar or white-collar, instead having a mixed workforce of both blue-collar and white-collar jobs. Overall, Capitan is a town of sales and office workers, service providers, and professionals. There are especially a lot of people living in Capitan who work in office and administrative support jobs (12.18%), sales jobs (12.08%), and building maintenance and grounds keeping (7.27%).

A relatively large number of people in Capitan telecommute to their jobs. Overall, about 9.69% of the workforce works from home. While this may seem like a small number, as a fraction of the total workforce it ranks among the highest in the country. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute.
