About Selfridge

Selfridge is a tiny town located in the state of North Dakota. With a population of 641 people and just one neighborhood, Selfridge is the 90th largest community in North Dakota.

Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Selfridge is neither predominently one or the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Selfridge is a town of managers, service providers, and sales and office workers. There are especially a lot of people living in Selfridge who work in farm management (19.74%), management occupations (7.89%), and teaching (7.46%).

You will also find that a lot of people in Selfridge work in agricultural jobs - much more than in the average community in America. This will be quite apparent if you drive around town, as much of the landscape is dedicated to farms.

One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their homes - 10.96% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Selfridge is a small town, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.

Selfridge Information and Demographics

The population of Selfridge has a very low overall level of education: only 8.99% of people over 25 hold a 4-year college degree or higher.

The per capita income in Selfridge in 2000 was $10,008, which is low income relative to North Dakota and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $40,032 for a family of four.

Selfridge is an extremely ethnically-diverse town. The people who call Selfridge home come from a variety of different races and ancestries. The most prevalent race in Selfridge is White, followed by Native American. Important ancestries of people in Selfridge include German, Norwegian, Irish, and Russian.

The most common language spoken in Selfridge is English. Some people also speak Other Native American languages.
