About Maxbass

Maxbass is a tiny town located in the state of North Dakota. With a population of 280 people and just one neighborhood, Maxbass is the 123rd largest community in North Dakota. Maxbass has an unusually large stock of pre-World War II architecture, making it one of the older and more historic towns in the country.

When you are in Maxbass, you'll notice that it is more blue-collar than most other communities in America. 38.2% of Maxbass's employed work in blue-collar jobs, while America averages only 24.7% that do. Overall, Maxbass is a town of managers, service providers, and sales and office workers. There are especially a lot of people living in Maxbass who work in farm management (17.27%), office and administrative support jobs (13.64%), and management occupations (5.45%).

In addition, many people in Maxbass have jobs in agriculture, more so than in most other communities in America. As a result, you will see quite a number of farms around town.

Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 17.43% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Maxbass is a very car-oriented town. 97.78% of residents commute to work in a private automobile rather than by other means, such as public transit, bicycling, or walking. This is because Maxbass is a small town, and most people who live here have to drive out of town for work, and the town population is not large nor dense enough to support an extensive public transportation system. Maxbass has a lot of rural roads, and houses can be far apart. Many residents drive out of town for regular shopping trips as well.

As is often the case in a small town, Maxbass doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.

Maxbass Information and Demographics

The rate of college-level education in Maxbass is quite a bit lower than the national average among all cities of 14.96%: just 11.63% of people here over 25 have a bachelor's degree or an advanced degree.

The per capita income in Maxbass in 2000 was $16,984, which is upper middle income relative to North Dakota, and middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $67,936 for a family of four.
