Lamoure is a very small town located in the state of North Dakota. With a population of 1,482 people and just one neighborhood, Lamoure is the 45th largest community in North Dakota. Much of the housing stock in Lamoure was built prior to World War II, making it one of the older and more historic towns in the country.
Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Lamoure is neither predominently one or the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Lamoure is a town of sales and office workers, managers, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Lamoure who work in office and administrative support jobs (13.49%), sales jobs (11.32%), and farm management (11.16%).
In addition, many people in Lamoure have jobs in agriculture, more so than in most other communities in America. As a result, you will see quite a number of farms around town.
One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their homes - 14.87% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
Compared to the rest of the country, citizens of Lamoure spend much less time in their cars: on average, their commute to work is only 12.97 minutes. This also means that noise and pollution levels in the town are less than they would otherwise be.
As is often the case in a small town, Lamoure doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.
In terms of college education, Lamoure is nearly on par with the US average for all cities of 14.96%: 14.52% of adults 25 and older in Lamoure have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree.
The per capita income in Lamoure in 2000 was $16,001, which is middle income relative to North Dakota, and lower middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $64,004 for a family of four.
The people who call Lamoure home come from a variety of different races and ancestries. The most prevalent race in Lamoure is White, followed by Native American. Important ancestries of people in Lamoure include German, Norwegian, Irish, and Swedish.
The most common language spoken in Lamoure is English. Some people also speak German.
