Jud is a tiny town located in the state of North Dakota. With a population of 332 people and just one neighborhood, Jud is the 117th largest community in North Dakota. Jud has a large stock of pre-World War II architecture, making it one of the older and more historic towns in the country.
Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Jud is neither predominently one or the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Jud is a town of managers, sales and office workers, and farmers, fishers, or foresters. There are especially a lot of people living in Jud who work in farm management (28.86%), office and administrative support jobs (19.46%), and sales jobs (6.71%).
Another important characteristic of Jud is that a lot of people work in agricultural jobs, especially compared to most other communities in America, and there are quite a number of farms in town.
One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their homes - 30.87% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
Jud is a major retirement destination. In fact, people 65 and over make up 29.82% of the population. For those considering a place to retire, Jud may be a good choice because much of the town's services and social community are oriented toward the over-65 demographic.
Being a small town, Jud does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.
In Jud, just 11.45% of people have at least a bachelor's degree, which is quite a bit lower than the national average for cities and towns of 14.96%.
The per capita income in Jud in 2000 was $15,618, which is middle income relative to North Dakota, and lower middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $62,472 for a family of four.
The people who call Jud home come from a variety of different races and ancestries. The most prevalent race in Jud is White, followed by African-American. Important ancestries of people in Jud include German, Norwegian, English, and Swedish.
The most common language spoken in Jud is English. Some people also speak German.
