Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Drake is neither predominently one or the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Drake is a town of managers, sales and office workers, and professionals. A relatively large number of people in Drake telecommute to their jobs. Overall, about 19.23% of the workforce works from home. While this may seem like a small number, as a fraction of the total workforce it ranks among the highest in the country. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
As is often the case in a small town, Drake doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.
In terms of college education, the citizens of Drake rank slightly lower than the national average. 12.94% of adults 25 and older in Drake have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree, while 14.96% of adults have a 4-year degree or higher in the average American community.
