About Flat Rock

Flat Rock is a very small village located in the state of North Carolina. With a population of 2,540 people and two constituent neighborhoods, Flat Rock is the 265th largest community in North Carolina.

Flat Rock is a decidedly white-collar village, with fully 87.56% of the workforce employed in white-collar jobs, well above the national average. Overall, Flat Rock is a village of professionals, sales and office workers, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Flat Rock who work in sales jobs (19.10%), management occupations (14.20%), and teaching (8.42%).

Of important note, Flat Rock is also a village of artists. Flat Rock has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Flat Rock's character.

Also of interest is that Flat Rock has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 16.41% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

A very large number of seniors call Flat Rock home: people 65 and over are 35.98% of the population. Because of the prominence of the retirement community, this is good place for the over-65 crowd to settle, as many of the village's services and social community are geared to this demographic.

As is often the case in a small village, Flat Rock doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.
