About Silex

Silex is a very small town located in the state of Missouri. With a population of 2,158 people and just one neighborhood, Silex is the 267th largest community in Missouri.

Because occupations involving physical labor dominate the local economy, Silex is generally considered to be a blue-collar town. 43.5% of the Silex workforce is employed in blue-collar occupations, compared to the national average of 24.7%. Overall, Silex is a town of construction workers and builders, sales and office workers, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Silex who work in office and administrative support jobs (11.76%), building maintenance and grounds keeping (5.68%), and sales jobs (5.48%).

Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 8.80% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

In Silex, however, the average commute to work is quite long. On average, people spend 34.10 minutes each day getting to work, which is significantly higher than the national average.

Silex is a small town, and as is often the case with smaller towns, the population isn't large or dense enough to support much in the way of a public transportation system. In fact, there are many rural roads around Silex, which makes walking or biking to and from work a bit difficult. This makes for a very car-oriented town: 97.31% of residents commute to work by private automobile, and people often drive out of town for work, shopping, and other activities.

Silex is a small town, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.
