Rea is a tiny town located in the state of Missouri. With a population of 437 people and just one neighborhood, Rea is the 407th largest community in Missouri. Rea has an unusually large stock of pre-World War II architecture, making it one of the older and more historic towns in the country.
When you are in Rea, you'll notice that it is more blue-collar than most other communities in America. 36.8% of Rea's employed work in blue-collar jobs, while America averages only 24.7% that do. Overall, Rea is a town of sales and office workers, professionals, and transportation and shipping workers. There are especially a lot of people living in Rea who work in office and administrative support jobs (12.44%), sales jobs (6.70%), and farm management (6.22%).
You will also find that a lot of people in Rea work in agricultural jobs - much more than in the average community in America. This will be quite apparent if you drive around town, as much of the landscape is dedicated to farms.
One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their homes - 11.00% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
One downside of living in Rea is that it can take a long time to commute to work. In Rea, the average commute to work is 30.43 minutes, which is quite a bit higher than the national average.
As is often the case in a small town, Rea doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.
The citizens of Rea are slightly less educated than the national average of 14.96% for the average city or town: 12.54% of adults in Rea have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree.
The per capita income in Rea in 2000 was $14,500, which is lower middle income relative to Missouri and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $58,000 for a family of four.
The people who call Rea home come from a variety of different races and ancestries. The most prevalent race in Rea is White, followed by African-American. Important ancestries of people in Rea include German, Irish, English, French, and European.
The most common language spoken in Rea is English.
