Sacred Heart is a very small town located in the state of Minnesota. With a population of 1,154 people and just one neighborhood, Sacred Heart is the 353rd largest community in Minnesota. Much of the housing stock in Sacred Heart was built prior to World War II, making it one of the older and more historic towns in the country.
Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Sacred Heart is neither predominently one or the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Sacred Heart is a town of service providers, sales and office workers, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Sacred Heart who work in office and administrative support jobs (11.68%), farm management (10.27%), and teaching (7.79%).
In addition, many people in Sacred Heart have jobs in agriculture, more so than in most other communities in America. As a result, you will see quite a number of farms around town.
One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their homes - 7.91% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
Being a small town, Sacred Heart does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.
In Sacred Heart, just 10.00% of people have at least a bachelor's degree, which is quite a bit lower than the national average for cities and towns of 14.96%.
The per capita income in Sacred Heart in 2000 was $18,143, which is middle income relative to Minnesota and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $72,572 for a family of four.
