About Hawley

Hawley is a very small town located in the state of Minnesota. With a population of 4,120 people and just one neighborhood, Hawley is the 166th largest community in Minnesota.

Unlike some towns , Hawley isn't mainly white- or blue-collar. Instead, the most prevalent occupations for people in Hawley are a mix of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Hawley is a town of sales and office workers, professionals, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Hawley who work in office and administrative support jobs (15.38%), sales jobs (10.02%), and teaching (7.79%).

Another important characteristic of Hawley is that a lot of people work in agricultural jobs, especially compared to most other communities in America, and there are quite a number of farms in town.

Hawley is very much a car-oriented town. This is because the population of Hawley isn't large enough or dense enough to support an extensive public transit system. It has a lot of rural roads, and the distance between houses can be quite large, which together tends to discourage walking and bicycling to work. 97.24% of residents commute to work in their own car (and the drive is typically to a job out of town). People also tend to drive out of town for other services as well, such as shopping, doctors appointments, and more.

Hawley is a small town, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.

Hawley Information and Demographics

In terms of college education, Hawley is somewhat better educated than the 14.96% who have a 4-year degree or higher in the typical US community: 20.42% of adults 25 and older in the town have at least a bachelor's degree.

The per capita income in Hawley in 2000 was $17,759, which is middle income relative to Minnesota and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $71,036 for a family of four.

The most common language spoken in Hawley is English. Some people also speak German.
