About Garrison

Garrison is a tiny city located in the state of Minnesota. With a population of 211 people and just one neighborhood, Garrison is the 470th largest community in Minnesota.

Unlike some cities, Garrison isn’t mainly white- or blue-collar. Instead, the most prevalent occupations for people in Garrison are a mix of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Garrison is a city of sales and office workers, service providers and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Garrison who work in sales jobs (23.53%), management occupations (15.29%) and office and administrative support (15.29%).

Another notable thing is that Garrison is an extremely popular vacation destination. A significant portion of the population is seasonal. During the vacation season, the city experiences a large influx of people who take up residence in second homes they own in the area. As the vacation season ends, the population drops again, leaving behind a substantially quieter and smaller city.

Seniors make up 28.10% of Garrison’s population, making it a popular place to retire. Because of the prominence of the retirement community, Garrison is good place for those over 65 to settle, as they will find many opportunities for socializing, as well as having access to many services oriented toward seniors.

The overall crime rate in Garrison is one of the lowest in the US. This makes it one of the safer places to live in the country in terms of crime.

The city is relatively quiet, having a combination of lower population density and few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. For example, Garrison has relatively fewer families with younger children, and/or college students. Combined, this makes Garrison a pretty quiet place to live overall. If you like quiet, you will probably enjoy it here.

Compared to the rest of the country, citizens of Garrison spend much less time in their cars: on average, their commute to work is only 17.07 minutes. This also means that noise and pollution levels in the city are less than they would otherwise be.

Being a small city, Garrison does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.
