About North Yarmouth

North Yarmouth is a very small coastal town (ie. on the ocean or tidally-influenced rivers) located in the state of Maine. With a population of 3,210 people and just one neighborhood, North Yarmouth is the 156th largest community in Maine.

Unlike some towns , North Yarmouth isn't mainly white- or blue-collar. Instead, the most prevalent occupations for people in North Yarmouth are a mix of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, North Yarmouth is a town of sales and office workers, professionals, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in North Yarmouth who work in office and administrative support jobs (17.94%), sales jobs (11.59%), and management occupations (10.97%).

Also of interest is that North Yarmouth has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their homes - 7.96% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Because of many things, North Yarmouth is a very good place for families to consider. With an enviable combination of good schools, low crime, college-educated neighbors who tend to support education because of their own experiences, and a high rate of home ownership in predominantly single-family properties, North Yarmouth really has some of the features that families look for when choosing a good community to raise children. Is North Yarmouth perfect? Of course not, and if you like frenetic night life, it will be far from your cup of tea. But overall this is a solid community, with many things to recommend it as a family-friendly place to live.

The town is also nautical, which means that parts of North Yarmouth are somewhat historic and bounded by the ocean or tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and tidal rivers. Such areas are often places that visitors and locals go for waterfront activities or taking in the scenery.

North Yarmouth is very much a car-oriented town. This is because the population of North Yarmouth isn't large enough or dense enough to support an extensive public transit system. It has a lot of rural roads, and the distance between houses can be quite large, which together tends to discourage walking and bicycling to work. 98.07% of residents commute to work in their own car (and the drive is typically to a job out of town). People also tend to drive out of town for other services as well, such as shopping, doctors appointments, and more.

North Yarmouth is a small town, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.

North Yarmouth Information and Demographics

The education level of North Yarmouth citizens is very high relative to the national average among all cities (14.96%): 44.75% of adults in North Yarmouth have a bachelor's degree or even advanced degree.
