Saint Leonard is a somewhat small coastal town (ie. on the ocean or tidally-influenced rivers) located in the state of Maryland. With a population of 5,429 people and just one neighborhood, Saint Leonard is the 171st largest community in Maryland.
Saint Leonard is neither predominently blue-collar or white-collar, instead having a mixed workforce of both blue-collar and white-collar jobs. Overall, Saint Leonard is a town of sales and office workers, professionals, and service providers. Because of many things, Saint Leonard is a very good place for families to consider. With an enviable combination of good schools, low crime, college-educated neighbors who tend to support education because of their own experiences, and a high rate of home ownership in predominantly single-family properties, Saint Leonard really has some of the features that families look for when choosing a good community to raise children. Is Saint Leonard perfect? Of course not, and if you like frenetic night life, it will be far from your cup of tea. But overall this is a solid community, with many things to recommend it as a family-friendly place to live.
The town is also nautical, which means that parts of Saint Leonard are somewhat historic and bounded by the ocean or tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and tidal rivers. Such areas are often places that visitors and locals go for waterfront activities or taking in the scenery.
One downside of living in Saint Leonard, however, is that residents on average have to contend with a long commute, spending on average 35.25 minutes every day commuting to work.
Saint Leonard is very much a car-oriented town. This is because the population of Saint Leonard isn't large enough or dense enough to support an extensive public transit system. It has a lot of rural roads, and the distance between houses can be quite large, which together tends to discourage walking and bicycling to work. 98.47% of residents commute to work in their own car (and the drive is typically to a job out of town). People also tend to drive out of town for other services as well, such as shopping, doctors appointments, and more.
Being a small town, Saint Leonard does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.
The overall education level of Saint Leonard citizens is substantially higher than the typical US community, as 25.42% of adults in Saint Leonard have at least a bachelor's degree, and the average American community has 14.96%.
