About Winchendon

Winchendon is a somewhat small town located in the state of Massachusetts. With a population of 9,612 people and just one neighborhood, Winchendon is the 180th largest community in Massachusetts. Winchendon has a large stock of pre-World War II architecture, making it one of the older and more historic towns in the country.

When you are in Winchendon, you'll notice that it is more blue-collar than most other communities in America. 37.4% of Winchendon's employed work in blue-collar jobs, while America averages only 24.7% that do. Overall, Winchendon is a town of sales and office workers, production and manufacturing workers, and professionals. There are especially a lot of people living in Winchendon who work in office and administrative support jobs (11.67%), sales jobs (9.37%), and management occupations (7.30%).

Winchendon is very much a car-oriented town. This is because the population of Winchendon isn't large enough or dense enough to support an extensive public transit system. It has a lot of rural roads, and the distance between houses can be quite large, which together tends to discourage walking and bicycling to work. 96.74% of residents commute to work in their own car (and the drive is typically to a job out of town). People also tend to drive out of town for other services as well, such as shopping, doctors appointments, and more.

Being a small town, Winchendon does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.
