About Eaton

Eaton is a very small town located in the state of Indiana. With a population of 1,589 people and just one neighborhood, Eaton is the 280th largest community in Indiana. Much of the housing stock in Eaton was built prior to World War II, making it one of the older and more historic towns in the country.

When you are in Eaton, you'll notice that it is more blue-collar than most other communities in America. 47.0% of Eaton's employed work in blue-collar jobs, while America averages only 24.7% that do. Overall, Eaton is a town of sales and office workers, production and manufacturing workers, and construction workers and builders. There are especially a lot of people living in Eaton who work in office and administrative support jobs (13.03%), sales jobs (12.88%), and food service (4.69%).

Eaton is very much a car-oriented town. This is because the population of Eaton isn't large enough or dense enough to support an extensive public transit system. It has a lot of rural roads, and the distance between houses can be quite large, which together tends to discourage walking and bicycling to work. 97.28% of residents commute to work in their own car (and the drive is typically to a job out of town). People also tend to drive out of town for other services as well, such as shopping, doctors appointments, and more.

Being a small town, Eaton does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.
