Lovington is a very small town located in the state of Illinois. With a population of 2,784 people and just one neighborhood, Lovington is the 418th largest community in Illinois. Lovington has an unusually large stock of pre-World War II architecture, making it one of the older and more historic towns in the country.
Because occupations involving physical labor dominate the local economy, Lovington is generally considered to be a blue-collar town. 39.5% of the Lovington workforce is employed in blue-collar occupations, compared to the national average of 24.7%. Overall, Lovington is a town of production and manufacturing workers, sales and office workers, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Lovington who work in office and administrative support jobs (11.50%), farm management (8.05%), and management occupations (6.62%).
You will also find that a lot of people in Lovington work in agricultural jobs - much more than in the average community in America. This will be quite apparent if you drive around town, as much of the landscape is dedicated to farms.
One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their homes - 7.76% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
Because of many things, Lovington is a very good place for families to consider. With an enviable combination of good schools, low crime, college-educated neighbors who tend to support education because of their own experiences, and a high rate of home ownership in predominantly single-family properties, Lovington really has some of the features that families look for when choosing a good community to raise children. Is Lovington perfect? Of course not, and if you like frenetic night life, it will be far from your cup of tea. But overall this is a solid community, with many things to recommend it as a family-friendly place to live.
Lovington is a small town, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.
In Lovington, just 10.17% of people have at least a bachelor's degree, which is quite a bit lower than the national average for cities and towns of 14.96%.
The per capita income in Lovington in 2000 was $18,146, which is lower middle income relative to Illinois, and middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $72,584 for a family of four.
