Hope is a tiny town located in the state of Idaho. With a population of 989 people and just one neighborhood, Hope is the 87th largest community in Idaho.
Hope is a blue-collar town, with 35.3% of people working in blue-collar occupations, while the average in America is just 24.7%. Overall, Hope is a town of sales and office workers, professionals, and construction workers and builders. There are especially a lot of people living in Hope who work in office and administrative support jobs (13.37%), sales jobs (11.69%), and management occupations (7.40%).
One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their homes - 13.35% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
Hope is a major vacation destination. Much of the town's population is seasonal: many people own second homes and only live there part-time, during the vacation season. The effect on the local economy is that many of the businesses are dependant on tourist dollars, and may operate only during the high season. As the vacation season ends, Hope's population drops significantly, such that year-round residents will notice that the city is a much quieter place to live.
One downside of living in Hope, however, is that residents on average have to contend with a long commute, spending on average 40.53 minutes every day commuting to work.
As is often the case in a small town, Hope doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.
In terms of college education, Hope is substantially better educated than the typical community in the nation, which has 14.96% of the adults holding a bachelor's degree or graduate degree: 26.60% of adults in Hope have a college degree.
The per capita income in Hope in 2000 was $20,453, which is wealthy relative to Idaho, and upper middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $81,812 for a family of four.
