About Salix

Salix is a very small town located in the state of Iowa. With a population of 1,134 people and just one neighborhood, Salix is the 292nd largest community in Iowa. Salix has an unusually large stock of pre-World War II architecture, making it one of the older and more historic towns in the country.

Salix is neither predominently blue-collar or white-collar, instead having a mixed workforce of both blue-collar and white-collar jobs. Overall, Salix is a town of sales and office workers, professionals, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Salix who work in office and administrative support jobs (13.67%), sales jobs (12.03%), and management occupations (7.41%).

Because of many things, Salix is a great place for families with children to consider. First of all, many other families with children live here, making Salix a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families, as well as find family-oriented services and community. The town's good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic values. With regard to real estate, Salix has a high rate of owner-occupied single family homes, which tends to reflect stability in the local community. Finally, Salix's overall crime rate ranks among the lowest in the country, making it one of the safest places to raise a family.

Salix is a small town, and as is often the case with smaller towns, the population isn't large or dense enough to support much in the way of a public transportation system. In fact, there are many rural roads around Salix, which makes walking or biking to and from work a bit difficult. This makes for a very car-oriented town: 99.65% of residents commute to work by private automobile, and people often drive out of town for work, shopping, and other activities.

As is often the case in a small town, Salix doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.
