Carlisle, IA Information

About Carlisle

Carlisle is a very small city located in the state of Iowa. With a population of 3,503 people and two constituent neighborhoods, Carlisle is the 112nd largest community in Iowa.

Unlike some cities where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Carlisle is neither predominently one or the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Carlisle is a city of sales and office workers, professionals, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Carlisle who work in office and administrative support jobs (19.62%), sales jobs (11.37%), and management occupations (7.41%).

Also of interest is that Carlisle has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

Carlisle is very much a car-oriented city. This is because the population of Carlisle isn't large enough or dense enough to support an extensive public transit system. It has a lot of rural roads, and the distance between houses can be quite large, which together tends to discourage walking and bicycling to work. 97.28% of residents commute to work in their own car (and the drive is typically to a job out of town). People also tend to drive out of town for other services as well, such as shopping, doctors appointments, and more.

Being a small city, Carlisle does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.

In terms of college education, Carlisle is somewhat better educated than the 14.96% who have a 4-year degree or higher in the typical US community: 21.77% of adults 25 and older in the city have at least a bachelor's degree.

The per capita income in Carlisle in 2000 was $19,467, which is upper middle income relative to Iowa and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $77,868 for a family of four.
