About Newton

Newton is a tiny city located in the state of Georgia. With a population of 882 people and two constituent neighborhoods, Newton is the 352nd largest community in Georgia.

Newton is a blue-collar town, with 37.9% of people working in blue-collar occupations, while the average in America is just 24.7%. Overall, Newton is a city of sales and office workers, professionals, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Newton who work in office and administrative support jobs (13.75%), healthcare (8.92%), and sales jobs (7.81%).

Another important characteristic of Newton is that a lot of people work in agricultural jobs, especially compared to most other communities in America, and there are quite a number of farms in town.

Newton is very much a car-oriented city. This is because the population of Newton isn't large enough or dense enough to support an extensive public transit system. It has a lot of rural roads, and the distance between houses can be quite large, which together tends to discourage walking and bicycling to work. 98.4% of residents commute to work in their own car (and the drive is typically to a job out of town). People also tend to drive out of town for other services as well, such as shopping, doctors appointments, and more.

Being a small city, Newton does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.

Newton Information and Demographics

In Newton, just 9.48% of people over 25 hold a college degree, which is very low compared to the rest of the nation, whereas the average among all cities is 14.96%.

The per capita income in Newton in 2000 was $13,832, which is lower middle income relative to Georgia and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $55,328 for a family of four.

Newton is an extremely ethnically-diverse city. The people who call Newton home come from a variety of different races and ancestries. The most prevalent race in Newton is White, followed by African-American.

The most common language spoken in Newton is English. Some people also speak Spanish.
