About Barney

Barney is a very small town located in the state of Georgia. With a population of 1,191 people and just one neighborhood, Barney is the 319th largest community in Georgia.

Because occupations involving physical labor dominate the local economy, Barney is generally considered to be a blue-collar town. 43.6% of the Barney workforce is employed in blue-collar occupations, compared to the national average of 24.7%. Overall, Barney is a town of sales and office workers, construction workers and builders, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Barney who work in office and administrative support jobs (11.97%), building maintenance and grounds keeping (7.71%), and sales jobs (6.49%).

Barney is home to a number of people employed in the armed forces. When you visit or walk around Barney, some of the people you will bump into will be military people In and out of uniform, jogging, shopping and generally out and about town.

One downside of living in Barney, however, is that residents on average have to contend with a long commute, spending on average 30.25 minutes every day commuting to work.

Barney is a very car-oriented town. 100% of residents commute to work in a private automobile rather than by other means, such as public transit, bicycling, or walking. This is because Barney is a small town, and most people who live here have to drive out of town for work, and the town population is not large nor dense enough to support an extensive public transportation system. Barney has a lot of rural roads, and houses can be far apart. Many residents drive out of town for regular shopping trips as well.

As is often the case in a small town, Barney doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.
