Grove City is a very small coastal town (ie. on the ocean or tidally-influenced rivers) located in the state of Florida. With a population of 2,107 people and just one neighborhood, Grove City is the 410th largest community in Florida.
Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Grove City is neither predominently one or the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Grove City is a town of service providers, sales and office workers, and construction workers and builders. There are especially a lot of people living in Grove City who work in office and administrative support jobs (13.86%), building maintenance and grounds keeping (11.61%), and sales jobs (11.49%).
A very large number of seniors call Grove City home: people 65 and over are 38.30% of the population. Because of the prominence of the retirement community, this is good place for the over-65 crowd to settle, as many of the town's services and social community are geared to this demographic.
The town is also nautical, which means that parts of Grove City are somewhat historic and bounded by the ocean or tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and tidal rivers. Such areas are often places that visitors and locals go for waterfront activities or taking in the scenery. This is certainly the case with Grove City, which has a vibrant tourist economy.
Grove City is very much a car-oriented town. This is because the population of Grove City isn't large enough or dense enough to support an extensive public transit system. It has a lot of rural roads, and the distance between houses can be quite large, which together tends to discourage walking and bicycling to work. 97.52% of residents commute to work in their own car (and the drive is typically to a job out of town). People also tend to drive out of town for other services as well, such as shopping, doctors appointments, and more.
As is often the case in a small town, Grove City doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.
The percentage of adults in Grove City with college degrees is slightly lower than the national average of 14.96% for all communities. 12.56% of adults in Grove City have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree.
The per capita income in Grove City in 2000 was $21,602, which is upper middle income relative to Florida and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $86,408 for a family of four.
The people who call Grove City home come from a variety of different races and ancestries. The most prevalent race in Grove City is White, followed by Native American. Important ancestries of people in Grove City include German, English, Irish, Italian, Polish, French, Scotch-Irish, Swedish, and Scottish.
The most common language spoken in Grove City is English.
